Bucs Cut Antonio Bryant … To Go Younger?

February 27th, 2010

Bucs coach Raheem Morris says our best WR, arguably our best offensive player, is gone because “we’re going in a young direction.”

Um, OK. So we’re cutting a very productive 29-year-old WR, but we’re keeping Michael Clayton who is a 27-year-old WR who’s been nothing but a disappointment after his rookie year?

Tears of a Gator

Tears of a Gator

Poor Tebow. First he gets crushed in one of the biggest games in his career. Then he’s shown crying on national television.

Maybe God couldn’t see the scripture under his eyes because of all the tears.

Atlanta Falcons head coach Mike Smith involved in another fight with opposing players

November 12th, 2009

I’m not a Falcons fan, but I actually like their coach Mike Smith. I also think DeAngelo Hall is a huge D-bag who needs to be popped.

That aside, this is the second time Smith has been involved in a scuffle with opposing players. I know he says “I’m always going to have my players’ backs and I’m going to take care of them” and I’m sure his players think it’s cool, that it makes him a real “take no crap” tough guy.

But neither he nor his players better be outraged when a player decks him. I don’t want to hear any crap about how it’s despicable that a player dared lay a hand on him. If he wants to be a tough guy, go ahead. I think it’s cool too. But sometimes tough guys get punched.

Bucs unveil throwback uniforms

August 3rd, 2009
Barrett Ruud, Earnest Graham, Antonio Bryant and Gaines Adams model the 1976 throwback uniforms that the Bucs will wear for a Nov. 8 game against Green Bay.

Barrett Ruud, Earnest Graham, Antonio Bryant and Gaines Adams model the 1976 throwback uniforms that the Bucs will wear for a Nov. 8 game against Green Bay.

On Nov. 8, against the Green Bay Packers, Bucco Bruce makes his return. The infamous “winking pirate,” along with the creamsicle orange and white uniforms, are luckily only back for one game.

While I’ll admit to a little bit of that’s cool, from a nostalgia standpoint, as soon as I saw the photo above of Ruud, Graham, Bryant and Gaines in those horrible uniforms I quickly remembered why they are gone. And why they should stay gone.

Jason Taylor is pulling the guy break-up move on the Miami Dolphins

June 2nd, 2008

So Jason Taylor calls a press conference to say … pretty much nothing. He just wants to make sure that everyone knows he isn’t asking for a trade.

Right.

“I’m playing ball in ‘08. If [a trade] doesn’t work out then I’m a Miami Dolphin. . . . I love this place.”

Sure, we get it. You want to play for a winner and and that’s in Miami, well, awesome. If not, whatever.

Ask any guy, we’ve all done this before. You’re dating a girl who’s … OK. She’s nice and cute and there’s nothing wrong with her, but you aren’t really in love with her. You really don’t even care that much about her. BUT … well, you do at least like having a girlfriend around … for obvious reasons. So you don’t just want to break up with her.

Instead you start keeping an eye out for “something better.” At the same time you turn off the charm with the current girlfriend. Rather than stay home with her on the weekend you do a Vegas run with the guys. [See Taylor and "Dancing with the Stars."] You basically just do whatever you want and then if she dumps you, whatever. If she lets you get away with it, well, that’s OK too.

It’s not the most admirable move in the book, but it’s a time-honored tradition among us guys. And it’s the same thing Taylor is doing. He wants to play on a winning team next year and he wasn’t really interested in putting in the work with the Dolphins. It’s not that he hates them, he just doesn’t care that much for them anymore. He’d rather be traded, but doesn’t want to be the obvious jerk and break up with them. So instead he just does whatever he wants and sits back waiting to be traded because he figures Parcells won’t put up with it.

Defense wins championships

February 4th, 2008

We often try to deny it, but it’s rarely incorrect. Whether you’re talking about football, baseball, or even something like card games. Defense rules.

Today we were reminded of this. We said “well, the Giants defense is great but the Patriots are just too good on offense.” We were wrong.

Congrats to the NY Giants for beating the team thought to be unbeatable.

Video: The Bucs finally return a kick-off

December 16th, 2007

My God. I never thought this day would come. This morning even most of the hard-core Bucs fans had no idea who Micheal Spurlock was … now he could run for mayor.

Kitna takes costume of the year honors

October 31st, 2007

OK, Jon Kitna may be my new favorite player. Dude came to a Lions party dressed as Lions defensive line coach Joe Cullen who was arrested last year for driving nude through a Wendy’s drive-through lane. And Kitna’s wife came as a drive-through worker.

Come on, that’s some funny sh!t.

Did the Cowboys overpay for Romo?

October 30th, 2007

The Dallas Cowboys signed QB Tony Romo to a six-year, $67.5 million contract that makes him the third-highest paid QB (by annual salary) in the NFL – ahead of Tom Brady and Brett Favre. Is that too much?

Romo is definitely the new it-guy. He’s the QB of the Cowboys, which always makes you famous, and he’s a good QB in the league who’s not named Brady, Favre, or Manning. So I can see the fascination. But Dan Le Batard co-hosted PTI today and said “you can’t name five quarterbacks better.” Oh really?!

OK, how about: Peyton, Brady, Palmer, Brees, and Bulger. That’s five, plus I left out Hasselbeck and Big Ben, who I could also make a case for. In fact, if you told me that I had to win one game right now I would take McNabb or Favre over Romo too. But I realize that Romo is likely to be playing long after they are gone.

I think Romo is good and I actually don’t think the ‘Boys overpaid for him. I think they should have paid whatever he asked because he’s an established star with a ton of potential. But I’m not ready to put him among the top-5 QBs in the league yet.
