“To make a long story short”
Why is the phrase “to make a long story short” always spoken after 10 minutes of rambling on? Has anyone ever answered a question “well, to make a long story short, the answer is yes” and then just shut up? I’m guessing no.
I sat in a meeting today listening to a guy ramble on for WAY too long. And the most annoying part was that he used the phrase “to make a long story short” more than once. My father used to use that phrase a lot too, so it holds a personal place in my list of pet peeves.
