iTunes 7 has some problems

Posted by Adam on September 19th, 2006

I was just listening to today’s Buzz Out Loud podcast from CNET and man, it sounds like iTunes 7 is some crappy software. Lots o’ problems. Personally, I have avoided installing it on my home computer. I installed it at work, but I rarely use iTunes on that computer. I only installed it because I was working with some podcast files at work.

What makes it worse is Apple asking you to upgrade every time you turn around. In some cases requiring it. For example, tonight I was going to download an episode of the new NFL shows on iTunes. I thought I would drop $2 in the hole to test out the highlight packages. But it wouldn’t let me purchase the download without first installing iTunes 7.

Why? What does iTunes 7 have to do with getting the episode? Don’t try to tell me that it’s a newer version of Quicktime, because then I’d just install Quicktime without iTunes. But that wouldn’t help.

My guess is that it comes back to the almighty DRM.

Whatever the reason, I’ll pass thanks. I don’t need the download that badly. And this test download was the first time I’ve even thought about paying for a download from Apple in nearly a year. I’m happy listening to my podcasts and all the music I’ve already purchased. I don’t miss buying that crappy DRM’ed music at all.
