Broncos, Falcons and Redskins complete a 3-team trade
Falcons get Ashley Lelie, Skins get TJ Duckett and Broncos get an undisclosed draft pick from the Skins. Interesting. Well, color me shocked. There are more three-ways happening in your average episode of 7th Heaven than in the NFL.
I’m not sure I’d be that happy as a Falcons fan. Duckett was a great relief back for Warrick Dunn and a monster to stop on short yardage plays, while Lelie has pretty much been a bust. On the other hand, that was about as good as they were going to get. And Lelie is going to get every chance to prove he can actually be a decent receiver. He ended up in the right spot. They will likely pencil him in at #3 - a spot he didn’t want in Denver. But if he is really even half as good as he likes to think he is, he should be able to beat out either Roddy White or Michael Jenkins.
Not sure what the kind of pick the Broncos got, but they were done with Lelie so they probably got about as much as they could. Washington, on the other hand, is the one that leaves me scratching my head. I understand that Portis is hurt, but so far they haven’t said he’s out of the season. Plus, they have Ladell Betts and Rock Cartwright to fill in. Why waste one of the few draft picks they haven’t already traded away for another RB? And where the hell do they keep getting money to pay these guys?
UPDATE: According to an AP story Wednesday morning, Broncos will get Washington’s third-round choice in 2007 as part of Tuesday night’s trade.
