I was flipping past the MTV Music Awards last night and saw Jessica Simpson on screen. I’ve finally admitted that I’m too old to care about these awards anymore. However, I’m not too old to check out Jessica. Of course, she’s gorgeous. And she was just as entertaining when she opened her mouth.
In her head: “OK, Jessie. Start of by asking the crowd how they feel. That always makes them clap. Then move to your joke.”
In reality, it didn’t go so smoothly. My favorite part was her half-hearted chuckle at her own joke. God, I love her.

I’m always in favor of using technology to do something better. Especially when it’s so obvious. In this case, it’s the CW agreeing to run Veronica Mars, Everybody Hates Chris, and Runaway (new pilot) on MSN.com a week before they premiere on TV.
Runaway will debut online Sept. 18. The first hour of Veronica Mars will be available beginning Sept. 26 and Everybody Hates Chris goes live on Sept. 24. Frustratingly, they will only run online until their premieres.
It’s dumb to only run them until their premieres and it’s only streaming, not something truly nice like the ability to download the shows and burn them to DVD. But it’s a start, and a good idea for shows which have younger demos more likely to watch online.

Uh oh, it looks like Adam Vinatieri is going to be out of commission for a little while. The clutch kicker who sealed the deal in three Super Bowls with the Patriots before signing with the Colts this offseason apparently has a broken bone in his ankle.
There’s no official word yet, but would he lie to his mother?
“That’s what he told us about a week and a half ago,” Vinatieri’s mother, Judy, told the newspaper. “They sent him to a specialist. They found a small broken bone in his foot.”
Thanks, Mom. I can never tell you anything.

In response to public outcry and pressure from the FCC, BellSouth and Verizon dropped their bogus fees that they implemented when the FCC allowed them to stop paying the USF fee.
Last week word started to spread about BellSouth and Verizon adding new fees to their DSL bills to take the place of a USF fee that the FCC said they no longer had to pay. The companies figured no one would notice that the less than $5 fee changed from “USF fee” to “Bogus fee we made up” since the price of the bill wouldn’t change. That would allow them to pocket the extra few bucks per customer that they used to have to turn over to the FCC.
However, they were wrong and people noticed – including the FCC. So they pulled the fees.
It’s good to see that companies are having a harder time these days pulling stunts like this.

In mid-flight, the pilot of a Canadian airliner got up to use the restroom and left the co-pilot to fly the plane. When he finished and tried to go back into the cockpit, the door was jammed. He then spent the next 10 minutes banging on the door and talking to the co-pilot over an internal phone system. Finally the door had to be removed.
Would have been hilarious if some upstanding citizen in first class awoke to see the pilot bang on the door the first time and tackled him, thinking a hijacker disguised himself as a pilot.

In a little game of swap the tight ends – ouch, that might be the worst porn title ever – the NY Jets acquired TE Sean Ryan from the Dallas Cowboys and sent TE Doug Jolley to the Bucs. The trades involved draft picks – reportedly a 6th round pick in the deal with the Bucs.
As a Bucs fan, I’m not too angry about this trade because we didn’t give up much – assuming the #6 rumor is true. The only thing that will bug me is if this takes playing time away from Alex Smith. The 2nd year guy from Stanford, picked in the third round last year, has the ability to have a breakout season this year. I don’t want to take away from that just cause Jon Gruden loves to employ 3 or more tight ends.

The Steelers aren’t a team that is quick to hand over the cash, but it looks like they are going to do the right thing with Willie Parker. They just signed him to a four-year, $13.6 million extension with a $3.75 million signing bonus.
After needlessly stringing out the Hines Ward deal last year, it’s good to see they are going to take care of an important part of their Super Bowl team. And I’m sure it helped Parker’s case that Bettis retired and Duce doesn’t look ready to be the feature back anymore.

Remember the hilarious scene in Naked Gun where Leslie Nielsen forgets to take off his mic after he makes a speech, and then everyone in the place hears him taking a leak? Well, I’m thinking the boys over at CNN thought about that scene yesterday.
On Tuesday, while CNN was showing footage of President Bush giving a speech, the audio that viewers heard was anchor Kyra Phillips in the CNN ladies room. You can hear Phillips talking to another CNN staff member, hear her zipping up, listen to her chat about her family and even insult her sister-in-law. It went on for several minutes before they finally cut away the audio to another anchor.
Last night CNN sent out an apology.
Watch the video, with her audio, below.

Yeah, I don’t think we need to be concerned about Carson Palmer anymore. Guy looked better than ever tonight. Of course, he was playing against a bad Green Bay defense. But he looked like he was ready to roll over any team he faced. And he didn’t even need Chad Johnson. Johnson was pretty well covered for most of the evening, so Carson just spent the evening racking up 3 TDs while playing catching with T.J. Whos-Your-Momma.
